Continental Assists Flood Victims in Asia

Tsunami

The Company's disaster relief – after the devastating tsunami in Asia in December 2004, Continental made 500,000 U.S. dollars available for the victims for immediate action and local projects. In close contact with local partners, the Company supported specific projects for children, homeless people, and fishermen in the affected countries Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka.

For the sake of immediate and direct assistance, the government of Malaysia was provided with 200,000 U.S. dollars through the local Continental subsidiary. For 100,000 U.S. dollars  temporary  homes could be created for over 100 families who had lost their houses in the disaster. An additional 100,000 U.S. dollars went to the support of independent fishermen whose boats and nets had been destroyed in the disaster. The rest of the donation was used for aid projects and rebuilding plans in Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

The employees of Continental and individual locations also answered the Company's world-wide call for donations and supported the people in the affected countries with clothes and goods as well as cash donations for the projects of experienced relief organizations in the region.
