Continental Robot “teaches” at
Mandela University in South Africa

Valuable Support for Students in South Africa

The Continental tire plant in South Africa has made a present of an industrial robot to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth.

The university is home to one of South Africa's leading technical institutes. Since the beginning of 2007, the robot, named “Penelope” and housed in the university’s lab, enables students to sharpen their practical skills.

Professor Henk de Jager from the NMMU was delighted to receive the robot and is pleased with the active exchange between business and science, which prepares students for a successful start in professional life.

Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) is proud to be able to support students in their research and practical endeavors. It also offers them internship slots.

With a workforce of about 1,400, the tire plant is a major employer in Port Elizabeth. It turns out both cars and commercial vehicles.
