Plant Budapest and its employees help victims of major disaster in Western Hungary

Continental’s Hungarian location in Budapest has donated about 18,000 euros to those affected by the river of poisonous red mud that erupted over West Hungarian villages in October 2010. In addition, many of the employees helped the victims by providing relief supplies like food and baby care items. Owing to the extent of the ecological disaster, the appeals for aid met with particularly good response among the employees. For the sludge torrent destroyed a large number of the houses and streets in Western Hungary, leaving many injured and several lives lost. The spill occurred after the dam containing a sludge reservoir broke. It was here that an alumina plant collected the mud generated as a byproduct.

The donation and the relief goods collected by the Continental employees were handed over to the village of Kolontár which suffered the most extreme devastation. The support was gratefully received by the local helpers.
