Donation helps some 14,000 persons in the disaster area The situation in Pakistan is dramatic: The country is suffering its worst natural catastrophe in eight decades. Heavy monsoon rains resulted in disastrous flooding affecting far more than 14 million persons, according to official estimates and relief agencies. Six to seven million require immediate humanitarian aid. Vital assistance is needed: medical services, drinking water and relief supplies. Continental cannot sit back and watch this catastrophe, and has therefore donated $100,000. Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Executive Board member for Human Resources: “When there are people in need, we want to and must help. I and my colleagues on the Executive Board are aware of this, and it is very important for us personally. With emergency assistance and donations, we assume part of our social responsibility as a global company, as is also specified in our BASICS.” To ensure that our donation is used effectively, Continental is working together with the German relief organization Welthungerhilfe, which puts the money to use where it is most needed. Continental’s donation will provide some 14,000 persons with temporary housing, thus protecting them from rain, sun and the cold.
