ContiTech is expanding its social commitment by involving disabled workers in packing more drive belts. A further 30 people from the organisation "Hannoversche Werkstätten" started work in September 2010 at the ContiTech plant in Hanover. "Our experience with two other groups here in the company was very positive" said Heinz-Herrmann Bentlage, who is head of production. One hundred and fifty people from special centres for the disabled now work for ContiTech, manually packing up to 10 million belts for the automotive aftermarket into individual boxes. For these members of staff the work at ContiTech represents a bit more personal freedom. They go to work on their own each morning, eat with their colleagues in the canteen and have been integrated into the community. "We enjoy seeing the staff from the Hannoversche Werkstätten" affirmed Margitta Czacharowksi from the works council. The project to integrate disabled persons in the production process has existed for several years and has already received awards within the Continental Corporation.
