Continental AG is a member of the

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), enabling it to incorporate its  Corporate Social Responsibility-Strategy into an international context. The WBCSD, founded in 1995, is a frontrunner and catalyst on the path to sustainable development. The aim of this alliance is to promote the role of ecological efficiency, innovation and corporate social responsibility. Since it was established, about 200 international companies have joined the WBCSD, which has regional networks in Africa, North and South America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

The WBCSD is a follow-up to the agreements reached at the Rio Conference and the demands made by Agenda 21. Future development must be designed in such a manner that economic, ecological and social goals are given equal weight. For this purpose, the WBCSD intends to strengthen cooperation between business, governments and non-governmental organizations.

Continental signed the European Road Safety Charter on 26 November 2007.

The charter is an appeal and impetus for all groups in society to make a concrete contribution to improving traffic safety in Europe. The objective of the Charter is to help reduce road fatalities.

By signing the Luxembourg Declaration on Workplace Health Promotion in the European Union, Continental is doing justice to its corporate responsibility with regards to promoting occupational health and safety.

The Luxembourg Declaration was adopted by all members of the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP) in 1997 to promote health and occupational safety in the companies of member states and to encourage member states to attach greater importance to workplace health promotion (WHP).

It is not only internally that Continental fulfils its obligation in regard to diversity. The company also shows its commitment to this topic to the outside world. We demonstrated this in December 2008, when we signed the Diversity Charter, an initiative aimed at promoting diversity within companies.
