Environmental protection means more than just complying with legislation and official regulations. In terms of sustainability, it is a management issue. The Company’s responsibility to protect the environment was laid down by Continental at the beginning of the 1990s in our corporate guidelines, THE BASICS. By doing so, we acknowledged early on the fact that the global expansion of our corporate activities is also reflected in an increasing use of natural resources, rising energy consumption, and the release of substances into the environment. At the heart of our environment policy is a systematic approach to the reduction of environmental impact, while improving economic and social conditions. At Continental, the responsibility for protecting the environment is specifically implemented worldwide in the ESH Policy. The Principles of Environmental Protection are used as a guideline and yardstick for all activities of the Company which are of relevance to the environment. |
