Automotive manufacturers are constantly trying to reduce the weight of their vehicles down to the last gram – and nowhere else are weight reductions more welcome than on the wheels. This is because lighter wheels not only reduce fuel consumption, they also reduce the unsprung masses, thus improving comfort and stability. It is for this reason that riveted brake discs have established themselves in recent years as an affordable alternative to carbon and ceramic brake discs from motorsport and high-performance vehicles. Their cast iron ring is attached to a hub made of aluminum, using rivets. This reduces the weight by approx. 10% compared to conventional single part brake disc. Since this is a very complicated design which is protected by many patents, aftermarket solutions for riveted brake discs have, until now, often been unsatisfactory. Instead of being riveted, the solutions in question are single-part solutions which weigh more, have a different visual appearance and even need a separate Homologation. As one of the first companies to supply this product to the independent aftermarket, ATE has successfully overcome these obstacles and is now offering riveted brake discs similar to original quality in its product range. ATE can supply riveted brake discs for the following vehicles: - BMW 5-Series (model series E 60 and E 61)
- BMW 6-Series (model series E 63 and E 64)
Brake discs for additional models are in development.
