The term SSR stands for Self-Supporting Run-Flat-Tyre.

SSR is a new development from Continental in the field of Run-Flat technology.

Run-Flat technology refers to tyre systems with emergency-running or flat-running characteristics. In the event of a flat tyre, the driver can comfortably continue his/her journey to the nearest repair shop.

SSR technology is based on self-supporting, reinforced side walls that support the vehicle in the event of air-pressure loss. This ensures that the side walls of the flat tyre are not crushed between the road and the wheel rim.

In the event of full pressure loss, limited mobility (no sudden driving manoeuvre) is still possible at a maximum of 50 miles per hour, up to a distance of 50 miles. The run flat distance will be influenced by driving style, speed, type of road, weather conditions, tyre condition and vehicle load.

With SSR tyres, an immediate wheel change is not necessary in the event of air-pressure loss. e.g. wheel change in poorly visible or dangerous locations are a thing of the past.

A spare wheel is also no longer needed when using SSR tyres. For the customer this means: more space, less weight and reduced fuel consumption
