Rising raw material costs lead to renewed price increase

2008.07.17

Hanover, July 2008. Continental plans to raise the retail price of all its truck tyres in Europe by an average 5% from September 1, 2008. This is the result of the continuing rise in prices for raw and process materials. The market prices for oil, energy, steel and natural rubber have also risen considerably in the first half of 2008.

Herbert Mensching, Managing Director Marketing and Sales for truck tyre replacement business in Europe, believes the main cause of the price adjustment is above all the resources. “In view of the resource shortage, I presume that the high cost pressure will continue to rise over the coming months.”

With targeted annual sales of more than €26.4 billion for 2008, the Continental Corporation is one of the top automotive suppliers worldwide. As a supplier of brake systems, systems and components for the powertrain and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics, tyres and technical elastomers, the corporation contributes towards enhanced driving safety and protection of the global climate. Continental is also a competent partner in networked automobile communication. Today, the corporation employs approximately 150,000 people at nearly 200 locations in 36 countries.

The tyre divisions are an Official Sponsor of FIFA World Cup 2010TM, which will be held in South Africa. For further details, visit the websites www.ContiSoccerWorld.de, www.ContiFanWorld.com and www.continental-corporation.com.
